Children's mission project
Awana Go, Cambodia.
Hey!
Sparky here. I've been out on a long, long trip. I traveled on 3 planes and was traveling for over a day before I arrived. All the way to Cambodia I traveled. You may not have heard of Cambodia before, but the country is located in Asia, and borders Laos, Thailand and Vietnam. On the map here, the land is green. In Cambodia, there are about 5 million children under the age of 15. Many are poor, and many have not heard of Jesus. Most are Buddhists (97.9%), only 0.5% of those living in Cambodia believe in Jesus.
But do you guys know anything? Have you heard that our children's church has its own mission project?
Do you know what a mission is? Our mission is to help children and adults learn about Jesus. Now we in Barnekirka have got our own mission project, so much fun! We want to help other children learn about Jesus. Remember when I told you that I was in Cambodia this summer? Then I was on a mission trip. I got to visit an Awana club in the capital there, Phnom Penh.
I got to be with the kids in this club to hear about Jesus, but I didn't understand too much about the guy who taught them to speak a completely different language than me. Khmer is called that. I got to share children's Bibles in Khmer, crayons and bookmarks that we at Barnekirka have made. Afterwards I played with the children, just like we do in the children's church here at Fredheim as well.
What is so fun is that we in the children's church get to help raise money for such clubs in Cambodia. When we raise money they can start and run more such Awana clubs, and more children there can get to know Jesus. Our project is called Awana Go, Cambodia. I hope you guys will help me with that!
At the children's church, we have a piggy bank that you can put money on. You can also get mom or dad to flip some money to the kids in Cambodia. Maybe you guys can do some small jobs at home and earn some money that you give to the project. In the autumn we will have a mission market and then the money we raise will go to Cambodia. There are a lot of things we can do to raise money. Some people think it's fun to make bazaars at home to raise money. Others like to make something a drawing, a painting that they can sell to their family. Maybe you like making kiosk. There you can sell cupcakes, buns or toys that you no longer use. There are many great ideas for raising money, maybe you have an even better one yourself! Just remember that it's important that you check with mom and dad if it's okay before you get started.
